Heartland Otago/Southland

Heartland map

Overview

Our educators (Pip & Roshell) and Harold love traveling around the ‘Heartland’ of Otago and Southland visiting all of the fabulous children at their schools. The map shows the places we visit, so as you can see, our educators and Harold travel a lot of kilometres through to some pretty amazing places to deliver the Healthy Harold programme to almost every school in our region.

Our Trustees are based throughout the region and are very committed to looking after Harold and the mobile classrooms, so that they can bring important health and wellbeing education to all of our schools.

Our participating schools are charged a minimal fee per child. As we are a charitable trust and receive no government funding, the remaining 70% of our substantial annual running costs are raised through grants, donations and fundraising ventures.

Pip Tisdall

Pip is a trained early childhood and primary school teacher and joined the Life Education team in 2008. Pip loves that she’s given the opportunity to work with so many amazing children from so many different places every day. “I get to help children (and teachers) learn how to celebrate life, embrace their differences, look after each other, understand how their bodies work and discover what makes them unique.”

She loves Harold the giraffe because he’s a little bit cheeky, a little bit mischievous and full of love. “I would say it’s pretty much impossible to leave Harold’s classroom without a smile on your face, and a little more love in your heart. Even on those days I might be feeling a bit tired or sad he can lift me up and energise me.”

Roshell Edlin

With a background as a primary trained teacher, Roshell brings a wealth of experience from both the primary and early childhood sectors. She has spent the past few years teaching in a multi-level classroom at Glenorchy School, nestled by the stunning Lake Wakatipu.

Roshell's passion for teaching aligns perfectly with Harold's mission. She loves Harold's adorable charm and his commitment to helping tamariki learn about their bodies, emotions, and relationships.

The Harold Club

Life Education Trust is all about helping our children to grow up with good self-esteem, respect for themselves and others, and maintain a healthy body and mind by making positive choices. Life Education Trust Heartland is totally community funded. The cost of operating the mobile classroom and delivering the Healthy Harold programme to the primary and intermediate schools in the ‘Heartland’ region is high. That is why we need your help.

We would like to invite you to join the Life Education experience and be part of something truly special. By contributing as little as $500 a year ($38.50 a month) you can become part of our local Harold Club. Our aim is to encourage people or businesses to make a regular contribution to the Harold Club and in doing so, ensure some sustainable funds to contribute to the operating costs of Life Education Trust in our region. You can be confident that all monies received remain in the Heartland Otago Southland Trust.

What can you expect in return?

  • You can make a difference to your community
  • Your name will be printed on the back of the classroom with other Harold Club Members
  • Your name listed here on our web page
  • Your business will be profiled on our Facebook Page
  • An invitation to periodic social functions
  • Periodic newsletters on what we have been up to.
  • Harold Club framed certificate, window stickers etc
  • A GST Invoice (if applicable)
  • Tax Deduction (if applicable)
  • But the most rewarding part of being a Harold Club member is in knowing that you are part of something good, something that works and engages the children of New Zealand in a positive way.
