Inspiring nutrition education in schools
Nourishing Young Minds supports schools to enhance the health of their students and community through engaging nutrition education and effective policies.
Teachers play an important role improving health outcomes for tamariki and their whānau, but often lack confidence to teach health subjects. Through Nourishing Young Minds, we work with school leaders to improve teachers’ knowledge and understanding of food and nutrition and equip them to create meaningful school policies and practices around kai. This programme is based on latest health and education guidelines and provides up to date context, a framework for cross-school collaboration and practical activity ideas.
The programme is designed to meet goals set out in the Government’s Healthy Active Learning plan and can be delivered in collaboration with Regional Sports Trusts or health organisations. A successful pilot in 2022 was run in collaboration with Life Education Trust, Te Whatu Ora Waikato, and Sport Waikato working with several Waikato Kāhui Ako communities of learning.
